Money Saving Tip Sandblasters do not need a special sand made for their use. The standard sand to use while sandblasting is available at most any lumber yard. The most common name is silica sand another is called plaster or mortar sand. Silica cuts faster. Regardles of the name you need purchase a sand with no rocks in it. Most yards carry 3 grades - fine, medium or coarse. All 3 types work in all sandblasters. A 100 lb bag of sand is about $6.00
